Through this space, we want to represent the real us. Not to sanitize or romanticize but the authentic Bangsamoro both the good, the bad and the ugly.
Why I started this blog
If you are a Muslim Moro like me, you’re also probably tired of hearing Bangsamoros being misrepresented by the media. Both national and international news, they only talk about us when it’s about poverty, terrorism and illiteracy.
I mean yes, it’s good that our wounds attract aid and projects from INGOs like the United Nations, Geneva Call and Save the Children. But hey, we can be more than just beneficiaries of relief goods. Aside from that, we also have stories and glories worth telling because actually, we are people.
Our culture is vibrant and diverse and our beliefs and values have deep meanings worth being proud of.
But you know what’s scary?
Some young Muslim Moros are convinced that we’re a culture and history should live in the past.
But we can’t blame them. In textbooks and media alike, that’s what they’re told. Especially now that we have social media, they’ve been exposed to other parts of the world so I created this space to help them appreciate the beauty of others without discarding theirs.
This is also for our non-Moro friends
Because without the stereotypes, the news, and the assumptions, we’re not totally different. Or even we do, that’s what makes us both beautiful.
Every Thursday, we’ll provide you with a human-written piece that explains why we do what we do, or some tips on how you can connect with us more.
Whether you’re a young Bangsamoro trying to make sense of who you are or a non-Moro Filipino who wants to connect with us, you’ve come to the right place.
